A first French conversation can begin with a few clear expressions. You do not need to know every grammar rule before speaking. Learn each expression with its meaning and combine them in a short exchange.
Begin with Bonjour. Say Je m’appelle Sara. to give your name, then add J’apprends le français. to explain that you are learning French. Replace the example name and details with your own.
In a formal or polite exchange with someone unfamiliar, use Comment vous appelez-vous ? Among friends, Comment tu t’appelles ? is common. Your choice of tu or vous depends on the relationship and situation.
Je ne comprends pas. means that you do not understand. Ask for repetition with Vous pouvez répéter, s’il vous plaît ? Requesting help is a normal and useful part of conversational practice.
The first person greets, introduces themselves and asks the other person’s name. The partner answers and adds a sentence about learning French. Swap roles, adding only one new expression at a time so that the conversation remains manageable.
